NORTH STAR: A Short Documentary about Annie Oakley

Come join us at the Nutley Historical Society and Museum on Wednesday evening, June 10, for a special screening of North Star.

North Star is a short documentary that follows a team of researchers as they uncover the true story of their hometown heroine and America’s first superstar— the legendary sharpshooter, Annie Oakley. You’ll be surprised at some of the stories they uncover.

Filmmaker Bryn Silverman was named one of Filmmaker Magazine’s 25 New Faces of Independent Film in 2024 and is a 2025 Film Independent Documentary Producing Fellow. Her latest film, Expression of Illness, follows her experience with thyroid cancer and premiered at True/False and screened at the Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival where it won Special Jury Recognition, the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival where Bryn was nominated for Best Emerging Director, and the Flatland Film Festival where she won Best Director: Documentary.

Since Annie Oakley lived right here in Nutley for a dozen years at the height of her career, our historical society was offered the opportunity to screen the film. It would be wonderful to gather together to celebrate her life. Annie Oakley passed away one hundred years ago this November.

The doors to the museum open at 6:30.

The 20-minute documentary begins promptly at 7:00.

There will be a live on-screen Q&A with the film’s director at 7:30.

So get your Annie Oakley on and join fellow Nutley-ites for this truly special event.
